Sneak a peek at some of London’s finest, funkiest
and most unique kitchens during Orchestra London’s tantalizing
fundraising event, Kitchens on Parade. Now in its second year, the
self-directed tour of 16 designer kitchens takes place on June 26 and
27 from 10 am to 4 pm.
“The kitchen is the heart of the home,” says Susan
Wetmore, Chair of the Kitchens on Parade organizing committee. “It’s a
room that really draws people in.” Last year, more than 1,200 people
enjoyed the event. “The response was fabulous,” says Wetmore. “People
actually came from as far away as Toronto, Goodrich and Sarnia. To the
best of my knowledge, there is no other tour like it in Southwestern
Ontario.”
This year’s tour begins at the Cardinal Fine
Cabinetry showroom. Browse through more than 20 displays featuring
every style of kitchen, bathroom vanities and even Murphy beds. And
don’t forget to visit the Orchestra London boutique.
A classic Ontario cottage with a truly unique
kitchen is sure to be one of this year’s highlights, says Wetmore.
There can’t be many homes in the city with a London Psychiatric
Hospital sink.
Another home on the tour was a winner in last
years Canadian House and Home magazine national renovation
competition. The brand new “urban chic” kitchen makes the renovations
complete.
And enjoy the refinement and elegance of a kitchen
specially designed for a homeowner whose disability requires a
wheelchair. The stunning room features innovative built-ins, a
butler’s pantry and a fireplace.
A $20 Weekend Pass gives access to all 16 homes
over the two-day tour. A $50 ticket buys the Weekend Pass and entrance
to an exclusive preview reception, which will be held in the kitchens
of the London Convention Centre on June 25. “This is one of the finest
commercial kitchens in the city,” says Wetmore. “It’s a really unique
chance for people to see what a first-class industrial kitchen looks
like.”
Wetmore expects tickets to sell like hotcakes.
“Kitchens on Parade is an important sequel to Interiors, which was a
very successful fundraiser for the orchestra,” she says. “Rather than
focus on the whole home, we decided to focus on the kitchen. It’s a
room you can spend oodles of money on and get oodles of enjoyment
from.”
$10 raffle tickets are available at
any house on the tour and by calling 679-8778 or 652-3295
